We love how Netflix has pretty much transformed the way we watch TV shows. Rather than having to wait and get our fix weekly, streaming services allow us to binge watch our favorite shows, and experience all the highs and lows one after the other. There are so many great TV shows these days, and companies like Netflix and HBO have ushered in another Golden Age of Television.

Sure, movies remain popular, and they are where the money is at, but television is quickly establishing itself as the ultimate creative medium. We don’t know about you, but we have loads of TV shows on our list that we need to get around to. As we are in the grips of winter weather, but the festive period is now gone, we need some great shows as a pick-me-up. Here are some of the best TV shows to watch this winter.


This German show has met with great critical acclaim and is one of the most highly anticipated shows to be released this winter. You can find the science-fiction thriller series streaming on Netflix, and there have been obvious comparisons with Stranger Things. While it’s more grainy and gritty, Dark is still one of the most inventive and captivating new shows on Netflix and one that will leave you begging for more once it’s finished. The good news is that a second season has been given the green light, so we hopefully won’t have to wait too long for that!

Only Fools and Horses

A timeless classic that is great for plenty of laughs, and makes you feel all warm inside. Only Fools is something of a British institution these days, despite the fact that it finished years ago. It’s the perfect remedy to the dark and depressing weather outside, and will never fail to make you laugh. If you’re tuckered out exploring new shows and crave the comfort of familiarity, this is definitely the show you should turn to.

The Crown

The Crown is one of the flagship shows on Netflix at the moment, and there’s a reason it’s so popular. Ths historical show features everyone’s favorite Royal Family, and the inner workings of their world. We all love a period drama, right? And, as period dramas go, this one is certainly up there among the best currently on television. Log in to your Netflix, and make sure you indulge in this Queen Elizabeth biopic – the second season has just started.

Black Mirror

If you’re after shows you can put on and just ignore in the background, move along. However, if you like dark, uncompromising shows, with a twist, and an important social commentary, this is the show for you. Expect bleak and harrowing depictions of the future and examinations of how technology will inevitably bring about the fall of Western civilization. Deep stuff!
Get a load of these awesome shows – you definitely need to spend time this winter watching these bad boys! We’re guessing you might have caught odd episodes (if not full series’), but if you haven’t we can’t recommend these enough. You’ve got a good mix here of comedy, history, sci-fi, drama, and horror.
